The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank have announced that SASSA Gold Cards must be replaced with the new Postbank Black Cards by 28 February 2025. After this date, Gold Cards will no longer function for withdrawals, payments, or transactions.
Beneficiaries can collect the Black Cards at designated Postbank sites, including major retailers like Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, and Boxer. The card replacement process is free and requires a valid South African ID or temporary ID. To find the nearest collection point, beneficiaries can use the cellphone USSD code *120*218*3#.
Key Benefits of the New Postbank Black Card:
- Free card replacement once per year.
- Three free in-store withdrawals monthly.
- One free monthly statement over the counter.
Beneficiaries are urged not to delay replacement to avoid disruption of grant payments. The final SASSA Gold Card payments will occur between 4–6 February 2025. SASSA and Postbank emphasize caution against scams, advising beneficiaries to only engage with authorized officials.
